Central and East Yorkshire Wing Air Training Corps Altogether Better Welcome Our Organisation Our aims Joining our training team The Options The Central and East Yorkshire Wing comprises 22 Squadrons located in towns and cities in North Yorkshire, East Yorkshire and Teesside. These are Stockton, Redcar, Darlington, Middlesbrough, Richmond, Northallerton, Ripon, Knaresborough, Harrogate, Wetherby, Easingwold, York, Malton, Driffield, Beverley, Brough, Hull, (2 Squadrons) Scarborough, Bridlington, Hornsea and Whitby. The Air Training Corps (air cadets) is a national uniformed youth organisation for young men and women aged 13 to 19 supported by the Royal Air Force. Formed in 1941 it has nearly 1000 Squadrons and we are one of 36 Wings which are divided within 6 Regions. All adult staff at Squadron level and most staff at Wing level are volunteers. Currently there are around 15,000 adult volunteers in the Corps of which around 30% hold uniform posts. Each squadron is commanded by a uniformed officer of the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve (Training) Branch and has a mix of uniformed staff, civilian instructors and civilian committee members. Headquarters air cadets is at the Royal Air Force College Cranwell and is commanded by a Royal Air Force Air Commodore. The aims of the Air Cadet Organisation are clear, demonstrating the ideals of producing enthusiastic and thoughtful young men and women who will strive to succeed in whatever walk of life they choose. We always need dedicated and enthusiastic adults to help on air cadet squadrons. There is no commitment to joining the forces or being called up whether you are appointed to uniform or remain a civilian. You do not need previous experience in either the forces or in youth work. Most of us started with little experience but did have the necessary qualities we would like from you, of an interest in developing young people and an enthusiasm to be part of our team. We don’t just take anyone though. You will be subject to checks and clearances before you are allowed to work unsupervised with young people. But it is not just about the young people. We can offer training and qualifications for you which will broaden your personal experiences and employers will find favourab le. If you are interested in the training side you will join as a Civilian Instructor and be attached directly to a Squadron near where you live. You can remain a Civilian Instructor as long as you wish. There are no age limits bar a minimum of 20 years of age. If you wish, and if we think you are suitable you may apply for a uniform post as a Non Commissioned Officer or as a Commissioned Officer. These roles carry greater responsibilities but training will be given. It’s over to you. The motto of the air cadets is “Venture Adventure” Non training roles We also need adults prepared to serve on our civilian committee support staff. This requires only a few hours commitment a month and mainly involves fund raising or helping with the squadron canteen. A very worthwhile support role. Previous experience Everybody has experiences which may be of use to us. It could be swimming, adventure training, camping, cooking, first aid, previous cadet involvement, model making, computers, engineering, previous military experience or administration to name but a few. Your present job could make you ideal. Among our current staff are policemen, firemen, ambulance drivers, nurses, accountants, school teachers, draughtsmen, computer experts, engineers, local authority and government employees, supermarket workers, solicitors, drivers, school cooks, factory workers and many more. In fact any and every job. Because we are an air minded organisation an interest in aircraft or flying in general is always a bonus but not essential. Interested? We hope you are. But come and look at us first. Please ring the contact number below and we will advise you whether you will be invited to one of our Induction Days at RAF Linton on Ouse or we will give you details of the nearest squadron. Whichever you do we are sure you will see an enthusiastic bunch of young cadets with high standards and equally high achievements, supported by a team of motivated and committed adults. We feel sure you will want to be a part of the action and you will be most welcome. Contact For a look inside our wing please go to our web site www.ceyorks.net.
